But however wonderful such an experience may be, it must be handled very thoughtfully; nothing is worse than an impulsive decision that could cause the dog (who has already had to endure enough) to suffer later on. It is a commitment for the next 10 to 15 years and concerns a new, full-fledged family member!

To make this a happy ending and a beautiful life experience for both you and the dog, we proceed very thoroughly, both in terms of preparation and aftercare (you can always count on guidance).

Or would you opt for euthanasia? 2) Who is your veterinarian, or who would you become?*

Are you prepared to provide the dog with the necessary veterinary visits, annual check-ups, vaccinations, etc., and are you also aware that veterinary visits may be more frequent in the beginning (e.g. for ear infections, intestinal problems, etc.)*

Are you willing to have the dog re-screened by blood analysis six months after arrival (tests are of course also performed during the adoption itself) and treated if necessary? This is for safety and assurance, as some foreign diseases (diseases that can be transmitted to a dog through the bite of infected ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, and sandflies) have a longer incubation period before antibodies can be detected in the blood. We would be happy to provide you with more information regarding this.*

1) Can you allow the dog a few weeks of rest after arrival (no visits, outings, etc. yet) so that he has time to acclimatize? 2) What are the basic rules you impose on new visitors regarding the dog? 3) Is there a separate room where the dog can stay if there are visitors and it might still be too overwhelming for him/her?*

What are the basic rules you impose on the children regarding the dog? After arrival, a puppy also needs a period of rest; are you prepared to properly prepare the kids for the fact that the puppy cannot be approached immediately during the first period because it needs to acclimatize? If you have children, are you able to offer the dog a "child-free" spot where it can retreat from the hustle and bustle and where you teach the children that the spot is solely for the puppy? You enjoy a social life, sitting on a terrace, visiting friends and family, hosting guests, etc., but it turns out your dog is still too anxious in these new situations. How much time do you give the dog to adjust, and how do you approach this?*

If it turns out that the dog has behavioral problems that you cannot resolve yourself, would you be willing, if necessary, to have personal consultations with the dog with a recognized behavioral therapist (costs average 50/100 euros per session)? Did you take a course with the dog before, and how did you like it? Dog school or personal coaching from a behavioral therapist?*

Can you agree that, should it turn out that the dog is not a good match for your family and needs to be rehomed, you will give the dog time for this during a period of at least 8 weeks? During that period, the dog can continue living with you or you can use a qualified dog boarding facility (boarding costs at your expense). During these 8 weeks, we will attempt to help by finding a new owner/responsible person or another solution to whom you could transfer the dog.*

1) Are you willing to ask SOS Stray Dogs Romania for advice at any time regarding problems and to follow that advice? 2) Can you agree to send us occasional updates about the dog via email or messenger? We would, of course, like to hear how he/she is doing.*

Are you willing and able to take time off/vacation to allow your dog to acclimatize, integrate, stabilize, socialize, and learn everything step by step upon arrival? And if so, what timeframe could you foresee for this?*
